Somewhere between the western wilds of British Columbia and the buzz and hustle of South East England (by way of both the Papua New Guinean Highlands and the Tennessee hills), Miriam Jones has made her very singular way as a singer-songwriter to land up here: Reach For The Morning. An electric-guitar driven album featuring twelve songs of faith, hope and self-revelation, Miriam "cleverly weaves well-chosen covers and traditional music with her own compositions and it’s a credit to her songwriting that her material not only bears comparison with the likes of Dylan but, in many cases, stands out as superior. Jones could sing the phone book and you’d want to stay ‘till Z" (Red Guitar Music). Recorded in the vast, empty basement of a church rectory during 2019 on Vancouver Island, and engineered, produced and mixed almost entirely by Jones herself, she sums up the process this way: "Maybe it was the lockdowns, the oppressive forces of all kinds bearing down, or maybe it was simply within the natural flow of where I was at in myself, but I sure was hell-bent on making this thing. It's been a huge accomplishment personally to me, like slaying a Giant with a sling and 5 smooth stones”.
"Quite apart from that this album is extraordinary on its own merits there are few artists willing to expose their talents to such a sparse instrumental background, and you need to listen to it and discover its beauty for yourself."
